NiddaMan – Development of a sustainable water resource management with the example of the river Nidda catchment area

The overall objective of NiddaMan is to develop a system solution for water management practice using the example of the Nidda catchment in Hesse. To achieve these objectives scientific work is carried out in six priority areas: (1) Development of new methods for monitoring trace substances and evaluation of their suitability for practical application. (2) Analysis of major stressors on biodiversity with biological tests in the laboratory and field. (3) Development of sustainable water resources management taking into account socio-ecological knowledge. (4) Development of technical measures and adaptation strategies for the reduction of substance emissions into the aquatic environment. (5) Modelling of outflows, input of chemicals and water quality, taking into account scenarios of demographic and climate change. (6) Integration of results, evaluations and concepts for the development of an integrated information management system.

NiddaMan is a joint project with contributions from 11 project partners. The project is funded by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) within the research focus "NaWaM - Sustainable water management" in the context of the funding measure "ReWaM - Regional water resource management for the sustainable protection of waters in Germany". The funding priority NaWaM combines the global activities of the BMBF in the water within the BMBF-Research Framework Programme "FONA - Research for Sustainable Development".
