Application and Admission

Application Period

The application period for the respective winter semester runs from April 1 to May 31 each year. Late or incomplete applications will not be considered.

 

Application Process

 

  • applications are completely submitted online-only.
  • all applications are collected until the official deadline.
  • selection committee reviews the applications and invites candidates for interviews.
  • selection interviews assess professional qualifications.
  • admission grade based on: 51% Bachelor degree, 10% motivation letter, 39% interview.
  • admission notifications follow a few weeks post-interview.
  • rejection notices are issued at the start of the winter semester.

General Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent in life science, biomedicine or other natural sciences (medicine, psychology, chemistry, physics, mathematics), with a standard study period of six semesters.
  • If the degree is pending, apply with 80% of the required credits and provide:
    • proof of matriculation.
    • detailed certificate of current study status including average grade
    • expected Bachelor's completion date.
  • Proof of English proficiency (B2 level (CEFR)) through:
    •  suitable language certificates such as IELTS (>5.5), TOEFL ibT (>87), Cambridge certificates, or other
    • bachelor's thesis in English
    • minimum one-year stay in an English-speaking country within the last three years.
  • While most Germans have some proficiency in English, a basic understanding of German is important for everyday and social life. Therefore, we recommend to take German language courses.


Motivation Letter and Interviews

Motivation Letter

  • english motivation letter (2 pages max, 12 pt font, 1.5 line spacing), covering:
    • motivation for MSc Physical Biology of Cells and Cell Interactions
    • key interests in program topics and scientific fields
    • career goals and study objectives
    • laboratory/professional experience
    • bachelor thesis title and summary
    • bachelor's degree grade
    • experimental methods used in Bachelor thesis
    • signed declaration that the motivation letter was prepared independently and without external help

 

Interview Overview

  • our motivation: understand candidate's interests and fit for the program
  • chance for the candidate to ask questions and get to know us
  • procedure: discuss motivation for MSc PBioC, academic background, and cell biology knowledge

Foreign students (non-German Bachelor)

  • Bachelor's degree certificate OR transcript of records including average grade, if degree is incomplete!

  • APS certificate for applicants from Vietnam, China and India

International students must submit certified, translated (German/English) copies of documents along with the originals.
