​Sebastián Hernández Nieto















Sebastián Hernández Nieto holds a BSc in General Biology and Environmental Sciences from the Universidad Central del Ecuador, his home country. After working on the systematics of a group of South American poison frogs, he moved to Germany to study a master's degree in Evolution, Ecology and Systematics at the Friedrich-Schiller University, Jena. During his master thesis, Sebastián worked on the cranial development of the Chacoan frog Lepidobatrachus laevis tadpoles. Additionally, he has worked for the Max Planck Institute for Chemical Ecology modelling neuronal structures of arthropods in a context of olfactory behaviour. Besides his scientific research topics, Sebastián is also interested in artistic fields such as photography and music. In March 2025, he joined the WZS-lab to investigate the influence of nuptial pads on anuran life histories and pheromone production, with the supervision of Prof. Lisa M. Schulte.
